It’s been one year.

There’s now a haunting haze around this date. We’ve been feeling it in the weeks leading up to the anniversary of the collapse at 324 Main. A constant reminder of all that was lost - including the lives of 3 members of our community.

Our hearts remain with those affected by this senseless and preventable tragedy. In this past year, we’ve only learned more of the corruption but we haven’t seen any of the justice. We haven’t seen any accountability; we have only seen a city and past owners/management seek immunity or deny claims of any wrong doing.

It’s been a wild year of watching the chaos unfold. We have no idea how many times we’ve muttered, “Are you kidding?!” or “That’s insane!” as new details come to light. If this was a movie, the studio would eventually give notes that it’s too convoluted, contrived and a little unbelievable. But it’s all real. And it’s all unfortunate.

We hope that by the second anniversary we see more closure and more justice towards the city and those individuals who are STILL wreaking havoc in our community. They must be held accountable.
Corruption collapses communities and we have receipts.

We send our love to the families of Ryan, Daniel and Branden; our friends Gene, Peach, Lexus, Broc and everyone else who lived in the building; and to the owners of Envied Vintage Clothing and 4th Street Nutrition. May we all continue to find peace on this windy, bumpy path to justice.

John Lewis once said, “When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have to speak up. You have to say something; you have to do something.”

We hope this community keeps saying something and doing something.
